There are several websites that provide a platform for freelancers to find work and advertise their services. This article will highlight the top 6 in the opinion of us here at The Freelance Finance. Note that this list will only focus on freelance work sites that provide work opportunities from multiple different job fields, and not just single niche sites.

Freeup takes our last place spot. A platform that provides jobs for over 80 different freelance job categories, Freeup boasts excellent 24/7 customer service with no service fees for freelancers. However, joining Freeup is quite the challenge with a 3 step process that consists of submitting an application, an interview, and a test of the platforms Terms of Use rules. While being a reliable freelance job platform, Freeup has lower freelance rates than the others on this list at the time of writing this.

SolidGigs takes the number 5 spot. This monthly subscription based freelance resource doesn't have a platform to browse, but is email based. For your monthly subscription, SolidGigs will send you weekly emails of gigs that have been previously vetted by SolidGigs staff. Solidgigs also provides training to better your chances of being successful in your freelancing career.

Toptal is a freelancer job platform that boasts only allowing the "top 3%" of freelancers to join the site. Once accepted, freelancers will have access to larger job projects from companies like Motorola, Hewlett-Packard, and Airbnb. However getting accepted is very difficult and not likely for a beginner freelancer. The acceptance process consists of a 5 part process including an English evaluation. Failure of any part of the application process can result in an application hold for months. If you do get past the application process, however, the monetary compensation is large and Toptal takes no fees from freelancer earnings.

In the third spot, we feel Flexjobs is rightfully at home. Flexjobs earns it's spot on this list because they legitimizes every job to provide a safe and scam free environment for freelancers using their platform. At the time of writing this, Flexjobs has over 28,000 jobs in 52 categories. What causes Flexjobs to be ranked so low is the fact that you must join a paid subscription. A positive from that is the competition is lower on Flexjobs as a result.

In the runner up spot, Freelancer is a simple to use platform that allows for bidding for jobs and live chat correspondence with customers. Subscription free and the ability to upload examples of past work, this platform seems to benefit freelancers from beginner to advanced stages of their career. It should be noted that Freelancer takes a 10% fee from freelancer earnings.

1) Fiverr

Our number 1 spot is owned by Fiverr. This large and incredibly popular platform has continued to build in popularity. With 3.42 million active buyers at the time of writing, Fiverr has a large and extremely diverse number of categories to choose from, coupled with a simple sign up process. Once signed up, freelancers can post their gigs and set their own prices. This allows for a freelancer to charge low in the beginning stages and as their reputation and skills increase, so can their prices. Another huge benefit of this platform is their Fiverr Learn online courses. The worlds top experts teaching proven methods, processes and best practices with no subscription fees in a large number job categories.

Conclusion:

Every platform has it's pros and cons and in our opinion, there is no bad platform on this list. Some are more suited for newer freelancers and some for more experienced. Some take high earning fees, some take none. In the end, we rated with those differences in mind. However, there are many more sites that provide these services online so do your research and pick the one that has the pros and cons that fit your needs the best. Whatever you do, get out there and give it a try...you'll never find financial freedom as a freelancer just thinking about doing it.
