4 Virtual Assistant Jobs: No Degree Required

There are many avenues to take when traveling down the virtual assistant path. Read on to find out more about each avenue.

So you've decided that you're going to start your virtual assistant career and you've read up on what you need to know to get started. Now is the time to decide what type of virtual assistant you want to be.

We're going to describe 4 different types of virtual assistant paths, what types of tasks you'll be responsible for completing, what type of training is recommended and how much you can expect to get paid.


Prerequisites and Recommended Items

Before we dive into each individual path, all of the paths require:


A fast and reliable desktop or laptop computer: The computer should be updated to the most recent operating system along with any software you might need for your path choice. This prevents hiccups with compatibility and surprise shutdowns while working.

A fast and reliable internet connection: This being an online job, you'll potentially be receiving and sending emails, audio, and video files. Many times virtual meeting calls may also be a necessity.


A working knowledge on how the popular social media platforms work: Understanding how to post, message, and navigate on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook at a minimum.


Recommended items include: Microsoft Word, Excel, a webcam, and a smartphone with a data plan.


1)Brand Ambassador

Training Required: None

Responsibilities: A brand ambassador is responsible for using social media to engage with the public and positively push a particular brand or product. Often times, the brand owner will give you a profile of the ideal customer(age, race, sex, income, etc) and task you with finding and engaging with those matching the profile. While there is no specific training required, understanding how to use the popular social media platforms and the ability to communicate in writing clearly are a big plus. You should be able to get behind the message and culture of the brand you will be representing The ability to use Microsoft Word or Excel to gather your results for analysis is also a plus.

Salary:$20,000 - $50,000


2)SEO Specialist

Training Required: Yes

Responsibilities: SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Getting your blog, website, or YouTube video ranked high enough to appear on the first page of Google search results or other search engine results depends on many factors. Proper search engine optimization dramatically increases your chances of a higher rating and search engine visibility, resulting in higher traffic to your website/blog or viewership to your YouTube video. While not requiring any type of higher education degree, there are many certification courses that will explain the ins and outs of SEO and how to best apply them. Udemy and Skillshare both have good courses, but you can find a good free course from Hubspot here.

Salary: On average-$48,000/year


3)Online Community Manager

Training Required: No

Responsibilities: Its important for online personalities and influencers to engage with their followers. It builds a sense of community that keeps followers engaged and invites new followers. Once an influencer gets to a certain level of popularity, however, answering and responding to every question and comment in their comment threads becomes overwhelming and unproductive. That's where you come in, community manager. You're job is to positively engage with followers to build community, push a brand, and drive further engagement.

Salary: On average - $55,000/year


4)YouTube Channel Manager

Training Required: Some

Responsibilities: As the title would suggest, you would be responsible for tasks such as helping scheduling posts, editing & uploading, and promoting the channel on social media to name a few things. The benefit of this position is that if you do a good enough job, you could potentially become a channel producer which involves these tasks and more, potentially more involvement in the channel, and a higher salary. Learning how to edit videos, very good communication skills and being very organized will certainly go far in making you a valuable asset to any channel.

Salary: Starting at about $30,000/Year
